Rivian Adventure Network Soon Will No Longer Be Free - InsideEVs

Rivian soon will apply a major change to its in-house developed Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) charging network, which consists of AC and DC charging points.

Rivian EV owners report through multiple channels that they received an email from the manufacturer about the upcoming end of free charging at the RAN network.

The company wrote: "Starting in early November, billing will begin at all Rivian Adventure Network charging sites," although without providing any additional details about the pricing. We can only guess that the cost of charging will be different for the AC Level 2 and DC fast charging points.

Rivian explains that nothing will change about the charging experience – an EV simply pulls up, plugs in and charging will automatically start (charging fees will be automatically billed to your Rivian Account, similar to the Tesla Supercharging network).

Where possible, the charging fee will be based on the total amount of dispensed energy (measured in kilowatt-hours - kWh). Details about a charging session will be displayed on the charger screen, the Rivian app, and through vehicle navigation.

The Rivian Adventure Network was announced in 2021 with a bold promise that by the end of 2023, it will include over 3,500 individual fast-charging stalls (200-kW with an option for more in the future) at more than 600 sites in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, the number of AC Level 2 charging points (11.5-kW), called Rivian Waypoints, was expected to exceed 10,000 in the same time frame.

The first DC fast chargers were officially launched in June 2022, and as one can guess, Rivian was not able to meet its ambitious goal. The map provided by Rivian indicates that the number of sites – especially DC fast charging – is relatively low. We counted just about 60 DC charging sites, all installed only in the U.S.

external_image

When it comes to the upcoming charging fees, that's not a surprise. Rivian clearly said in 2021 that the network will initially be exclusive to Rivian EVs, and later will be open to other EVs, while Rivian EVs are expected to get special rates.

Meanwhile, the company is making a switch from the CCS1 charging inlet to the Tesla-developed North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging standard, starting in 2025. This probably means that soon Rivian sites will be equipped with dual-head CCS1 and NACS charging plugs. The J1772 AC charging plugs will be supplemented by the NACS ones too.

Construction of high-speed fiber optic network slowed by permitting issues in western Berks - Reading Eagle

For months, large orange coils at street corners in Spring Township have stood as beacons for a fiber optic network under construction.

Crews and their equipment threading fiber cable under curbs and sidewalks in Spring and a few other Berks County municipalities seemed to have vanished after feverish activity early in the year.

With the bound coils that resemble hula hoops propped up or falling over in planting strips, residents have been left to wonder what happened to plans to build the first all-fiber internet network in Berks.

Nothing, according to the CEO of Wyomissing-based FastBridge Fiber LLC, other than the company having miscalculated the pace at which it could obtain permits for intersection crossings.

Workers lay fiber-optic cable for FastBridge Fiber along the 1100 block of Whitfield Boulevard in Spring Township. (BILL UHRICH - READING EAGLE)
Workers lay fiber optic cable for FastBridge Fiber along the 1100 block of Whitfield Boulevard in Spring Township in January. (BILL UHRICH – READING EAGLE)

FastBridge began construction nearly a year ago of what it calls a “future-proof” all-fiber-optic network that will make lightning-fast internet service available to more than 7,000 homes and hundreds of businesses.

The process of obtaining permits, however, from the municipalities, and especially PennDOT where applicable, has been significantly slower than anticipated, said Eric Warren, FastBridge CEO.

Code enforcement officers don’t issue a broad permit covering the entire municipality, he said. Instead, each street crossing requires a permit, and those permits are approved for only a few crossings at a time.

“This is really the last step, getting the street crossings all connected,” Warren said.

Warren said other than the permit-related challenges, the project is going well, with an undisclosed number of residents and businesses in the first phase of the fledgling network – Spring Township, Wyomissing and Sinking Spring – getting services.

“We started construction in November of last year, and we’re providing service,” Warren said. “We can serve thousands and thousands and thousands of customers in the greater Reading area.”

While it was dormant over the summer in Spring Township, FastBridge crews are busy installing fiber cable in more municipalities west of Sinking Spring, Warren said.

Construction is the early stages in Lower Heidelberg and South Heidelberg townships and is expected to begin soon in Wernersville.

The company also is gearing up for work in Reading’s northern suburb.

“We continue to expand rapidly,” Warren said. “We’re starting construction in several new municipalities and starting engineering work on the northern side of town.”

Warren declined to specify the municipalities to be included in the northern expansion but said construction could start in early winter.

The company is also eying future expansion into southern Berks, he said.

FastBridge isn’t seeking to provide landline telephone services or cable television, though customers will be able to subscribe to streaming services to watch programs on TV or other devices.

The company is marketing its service as competition to cable giant Comcast, which offers internet services as well as cable television programming under the Xfinity name.

Warren said thousands of customers can sign up now for service. The company is also taking orders for those within the service area whose homes or businesses cannot presently be connected due to construction delays. Potential customers can check on service availability on the company’s website, fastbridgefiber.com.

Georgia football-Ole Miss game time, TV Network for Week 11 game to be announced on Sunday - DawgNation

ATHENS — As hard as it is to believe, the upcoming game against the Ole Miss Rebels will be Georgia’s final home game of the 2023 season.

The SEC announced it will use a six-day option to announce the Week 11 game. The contest will start at 3:30 on CBS, 7 p.m. on ESPN or 7:30 on the SEC Network. The other games being considered are LSU-Florida and Missouri-Tennessee.

Georgia is 5-0 at home on the season and will host No. 14 Missouri this coming weekend.

“It’s going to be a big one next week,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. ”That’s a really good team, I’ve always said they’re extremely physical, big, tough. Eli does an incredible job on offense. Nobody is playing better on offense right now in the country than they are with their quarterback. We looked at them during the off week. We took a day and said, ‘Hey, we’re going to look at these guys before we move to Florida,’ and they’re good. They’ll be well rested coming into our place.”

Georgia has won 25 straight games overall and has not lost a home game since 2019. The Bulldogs have the longest home-winning streak in the country as well.

As for the Ole Miss Rebels, they are off to a 7-1 start and are ranked No. 11 in the most recent AP Poll. The Rebels took down Vanderbilt 33-7 this past weekend.

This will be the first time Kirby Smart and Lane Kiffin face off as head coaches. The pair worked on the same Alabama staff under Nick Saban during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Kiffin is in his fourth year as the head coach at Ole Miss.

As for Smart, Ole Miss is the only SEC school that he has not beaten as Georgia’s head coach. The Rebels beat Georgia 45-14 when they last met back in 2016.

Georgia throttled Florida 43-20 this past weekend. It was a dominant performance from the No. 1 ranked team in the country which is attempting to round itself in the best version of itself.

Saturday’s game against Missouri is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on CBS. Ole Miss takes on Texas A&M this weekend, with that game starting at 12 p.m. ET and airing on ESPN.

Yellowstone on CBS Ratings Boom Sets Scene for Network Shows - TheWrap

CBS has a brand new hit on its hands with the broadcast run this fall of Paramount Network drama “Yellowstone.” Nearly 22 million viewers tuned in to at least one episode of the Taylor Sheridan drama. Paired with Paramount Global’s cross-network promotions, the show’s ratings success could be a blueprint for legacy media companies looking to leverage hit shows across both linear and streaming platforms.

It wasn’t some genius strategy. The broadcast network’s decision to air the series — which first premiered on the cable channel Paramount Network in 2018 — was prompted by this summer’s Hollywood double strikes, which halted production of scripted shows and left broadcasters scrambling to fill their fall schedules.

IDF vows to destroy Hamas' 300-mile tunnel network as terrorists boast of 'thousands of traps' underground - New York Post

Dramatic new video released by Israel on Sunday reveals how Hamas uses its biggest advantage against the Israeli army — a remarkably complex maze of tunnels — to transport terrorists and weapons across Gaza.

The chilling footage also features Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ political leader, touting the 300-mile underground network’s sprawling reach and boasting that it is filled with “hundreds and thousands of traps.”

The Israeli Defense Forces, which released the video, slammed the booby-trapped tunnels as a cowardly tactic used by Hamas to hide behind “millions of civilians,” as several of their entrances lie inside homes, schools, mosques and hospitals.

The IDF has vowed to decimate the network ahead of an expected all-out invasion of Gaza to destroy the terrorist group and rescue more than 200 hostages.

“Destroying Hamas means destroying their tunnel network of terror,” the IDF said.

The tunnel systems were first discovered in 2006 and were primarily used at the time as a means to bypass the Israeli blockade around Gaza when Hamas first came into power.

Although the secret system brought much needed aid to the more than 2 million Palestinians living in Gaza, they were soon transformed into a military weapon by Hamas to mount attacks against Israel.

Parts of the tunnels can run as deep as 130 feet, allowing members of the terrorist group to find quick refuge from Israeli airstrikes.

The IDF has previously taken journalists on tours of parts of the tunnels it has overtaken, showing them to be sophisticated structures with concrete walls, electricity and carts, according to the Washington Post.

At least some of the tunnels are said to have entrances by schools, civilian homes, mosques and hospitals — setting up a scenario where Hamas knowingly sacrfices Palestinian civilians to further its twisted cause.

The tunnels are likely where Hamas is holding the hostages abducted during the group’s Oct. 7 terror attack inside Israel, according to Bruce Hoffman, an expert with the US Council on Foreign Relations.

Hoffman warned that the IDF will likely face an onslaught of traps inside the tunnels and may find that even the hostages themselves could be booby-trapped, according to a CFR briefing earlier this month.

Despite the perils, the IDF could deploy a new weapon called “sponge bombs” to turn the tunnels into a huge disadvantage for Hamas.

The tunnels are where Hamas’ weapons are stored and where hostages are believed to be held.

The new bombs consist of chemical compounds that swiftly expand and harden when thrown, allowing Israeli soldiers to seal off passages in the tunnel.

The device would leave Hamas fighters with no escape and allow Israeli commandos to secure safe routes while searching for hostages, according to reports.

Bears vs Chargers Player Props: Sunday Night Football Bets for DJ Moore, More - The Action Network

Bears vs Chargers Player Props: Sunday Night Football

What better way to bet Sunday Night Football than with the best Bears vs Chargers player props?

Our betting expert has lined up four Sunday Night Football picks for props in Week 8, featuring plays on both the Chargers and the Bears.

Best Sunday Night Football Props

Bears vs. Chargers

Keenan Allen

Over 78.5 Receiving Yards

Now in his 10th season in the NFL, Keenan Allen is still very much amongst the best wideouts in the league. Not only that, but the 31-year-old has had a good season so far, finding the endzone four times in six games and already recording 574 yards.

His receiving yard line for this one sits at 83.5 and I’m confident that we’ll see him go over against a Bears defense who rank 28th on defensive DVOA. Allen has gone over 83.5 yards in half of his games this year and has hit the over on his total in 4-of-6 matchups.

Pick: Keenan Allen Over 78.5 Receiving Yards (-113)

What is QuickSlip?

QuickSlip is an Action Network feature that allows users to automatically pre-load their bet slip at FanDuel Sportsbook.

D.J. Moore

Over 56.5 Receiving Yards

It’s an absolute smash on DJ Moore hitting the Over on his passing yards against the Chargers. Firstly, let’s talk about Moore. Now in his fifth year, this feels like the breakout that all truthers have been waiting for. He’s recorded 636 receiving yards through seven games and already has three 100-plus yard games, including that incredible 230-yard performance against the Commanders.

Last week he only managed 54 yards in his first full game with Tyson Bagent at QB, but while 54 yards isn’t hugely exciting for us, it is exciting to see that he still was targeted nine times, hauling in eight of them. He now faces a Chargers team that is terrible against the pass. Their defense ranks dead last in the NFL in terms of passing yards allowed per game, giving up 310 passing yards per game, which is 36 yards more than their nearest rival. If Moore continues to get fed here, which there is no evidence to suggest that he won’t, we should see him smash his receiving yards total. I’d happily take this line if it moves all the way up to 62 yards.

Pick: D.J. Moore Over 56.5 Receiving Yards

D.J. Moore

100+ Receiving Yards

We’ll keep this one very brief but in addition to taking the over on Moore’s receiving yards line, we’ll also be having a small sprinkle on Moore to record 100-plus receiving yards. It’s a big price, so we’re only going to have a small wager but given what we’ve seen from the Chargers this season it’s something worth looking into.

Pick: D.J. Moore 100+ Receiving Yards

Get $100 in bonus bets if your first bet at Caesars Sportsbook loses!

Tyson Bagent

Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+750)

I think there’s value to be had on Bagent scoring against the Chargers, despite the fact that he's not the Bears QB you'd expect to find yourself betting in this market.

We have a very small sample size in the NFL, but Bagent managed an average of eight yards per carry on his three attempts against the Raiders and while he is by no means a dual-threat QB, it is worth flagging that he scored five rushing touchdowns in his final season at Shepherd.

The Chargers have been relatively solid against the run this year, but despite QBs attempting a combined 21 rushes through six games they’ve allowed three rushing touchdowns to the position. With Ryan Tannehill, Aidan O’Connell and Dak Prescott all finding the endzone this year, it gives me the impression that this could be an area of weakness for the Chargers.

Pick: Tyson Bagent Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+750)

The ‘Gaza metro’: The mysterious subterranean tunnel network used by Hamas - AOL

The myriad tunnels under Gaza are best known as passageways used to smuggle goods from Egypt and launch attacks into Israel.

But there exists a second underground network that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) colloquially refer to as the “Gaza metro.” It’s a vast labyrinth of tunnels, by some accounts several kilometers underground, used to transport people and goods; to store rockets and ammunition caches; and house Hamas command and control centers, all away from the prying eyes of the IDF’s aircraft and surveillance drones.

Hamas in 2021 claimed to have built 500 kilometers (311 miles) worth of tunnels under Gaza, though it is unclear if that figure was accurate or posturing. If true, Hamas’ underground tunnels would be a little less than half the length of the New York City subway system.

“It’s a very intricate, very large – huge – network of tunnels on a rather small piece of territory,” said Daphne Richemond-Barak, a professor at Israel’s Reichman University and expert on underground warfare.

It’s unclear how much the tunnel network would have cost Hamas, which governs the impoverished coastal strip. The figure is likely significant, both in terms of manpower and capital.

Gaza has been under a land, sea and air blockade by Israel, as well as a land blockade by Egypt, since 2007 and is not believed to possess the type of massive machinery typically used to build tunnels deep underground. Experts say that diggers using basic tools likely burrowed deep underground to dig the network, which is wired with electricity and reinforced by concrete. Israel has long accused Hamas of diverting concrete meant for civilian and humanitarian purposes toward the construction of tunnels.

Hamas’ critics also say that the group’s massive expenditures on tunnels could have instead paid for civilian bomb shelters or early warning networks like those across the border in Israel.

The asymmetric advantage

Tunnels have been an attractive tool of warfare since medieval times. Today they offer militant groups like Hamas an edge in asymmetric warfare, negating some of the technological advantages of a more advanced military like the IDF.

What makes Hamas tunnels different from those of al Qaeda in the mountains of Afghanistan or the Viet Cong in the jungles of Southeast Asia is that it has constructed a subterranean network below one of the most densely populated areas on the planet. Nearly 2 million people live in the 88 square miles that make up Gaza City.

“It’s always difficult to deal with tunnels, don’t get me wrong, in any context, even when they are in a mountainous area, but when they are urban area, then everything is more complicated – the tactical aspects, strategic aspects, the operational aspects, and of course, the protection that you want to ensure for the civilian population,” said Richemond-Barak, who is also a senior fellow at the Lieber Institute for Law and Land Warfare and the Modern War Institute at West Point.

Since the October 7 terror attack in Israel in which at least 1,400 people were killed, according to Israeli authorities, the IDF has repeatedly alleged that Hamas is hiding inside these passages “underneath houses and inside buildings populated with innocent Gazan civilians,” effectively turning them into human shields. Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have killed more than 7,000 people, according to Palestinian health officials, drawn from sources in the Hamas-controlled enclave.

One of the few hostages released by Hamas described what it is was like to be kidnapped by gunmen and taken into a tunnel system in Gaza.

Yocheved Lifshitz, a frail 85-year-old grandmother, said she was forced to walk on wet ground and descended into an underground tunnel system – which she likened to a spiderweb – where she was greeted by “people who told us we believe in the Quran” and promised “not to harm” her and her fellow hostages.

She added that she and other hostages, separated into groups, slept on mattresses on the floor of the tunnels.

The IDF is expected to go after the network in its forthcoming ground incursion into Gaza, as it has in recent years gone to extreme lengths to eliminate Hamas’ tunnels. Israel launched a ground assault on Gaza in 2014 to try and eliminate the underground passages.

Israel has repeatedly warned about 1.1 million people living in Gaza to move south ahead of its likely operation, according to the United Nations. Critics said such an order was impossible to carry out on short notice in the middle of a war zone. The top UN human rights official said the evacuation call “defies the rules of war and basic humanity.”

Moving civilians out of Gaza City would help make it safer to eliminate tunnels, but such operations will be dangerous, Richemond-Barak said.

This week the Israeli military expanded its ground operation, pounding sites in Gaza. It said 150 underground targets were hit.

The IDF can either render the tunnels temporarily unusable or destroy them. According to Richemond-Barak, bombing the underground passages is typically the most efficient way to eliminate them, but such strikes can impact civilians.

What is clear is that technology alone won’t be enough to stop the subterranean threat.

Israel spent billions of dollars attempting to secure the border with a smart system that boasts advanced sensors and subterranean walls, yet Hamas was still able to launch its October 7 assault by land, air and sea.

Richemond-Barak said a holistic approach is required, one that employs visual intelligence, border monitoring and even asking civilians to keep an eye out for anything suspect.

“There is no foolproof solution to deal with a tunnel threat,” Richemond-Barak said. “There’s no Iron Dome for tunnels.”

Air Force vs. Colorado State live stream, how to watch online, CBS Sports Network channel finder, odds - CBS Sports

NCAA Football: Robert Morris at Air Force
USATSI

CBS Sports Network's 2023 college football schedule marches on with six games set for Week 9. It started with two weeknight battles and will conclude with a Saturday quadruple-header. The action kicked off Tuesday night with New Mexico State's 27-24 win over Louisiana Tech in Conference USA play. The league was back in the spotlight again Wednesday evening as conference newcomer Jacksonville State smashed FIU 41-16.

After a two-day break from the FBS action comes a busy Saturday. The loaded schedule kicks off in the noon ET window when Army West Point hosts UMass in a clash of independents. That game is followed by a pair of in-state feuds. Ohio hosts Miami (Ohio) in an afternoon MAC battle before No. 19 Air Force -- one of just nine remaining undefeated FBS teams -- visits Colorado State for a Mountain West showdown in the early evening.

Coverage then concludes with another dose of Mountain West action in the late-night window when Nevada, fresh off snapping the nation's longest losing streak in Week 8, takes on New Mexico

CBS Sports Network will be with you every step of the way once the Week 9 games begin. In the meantime, get caught up on viewing information, storylines, betting odds and more for each matchup.

No. 19 Air Force at Colorado State

Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App (Free)
Spread: Air Force -11.5 | Will the Falcons cover? Check out SportsLine's Week 9 projections here

Can anyone stop Air Force? The Falcons are now 7-0 after a Week 8 win at Navy. The Falcons continue to dominate on the ground, owning both the nation's top rushing offense and second-best rushing defense. The passing game even showed life against the Midshipmen as quarterback Zac Larrier -- back way ahead of schedule from a knee injury the week prior -- completed the longest touchdown pass (94 yards) in school history. Air Force could feast again Saturday against a Colorado State defense that ranks near the bottom of the FBS, giving up 466.7 total yards on average. The Rams have also struggled mightily to establish the run, averaging just 79.7 rushing yards per outing.

New Mexico at Nevada

Date: Saturday, Oct. 28 | Time: 10:30 p.m. ET
Location: Mackay Stadium -- Reno, Nevada
TV: CBS Sports Network [Channel finder
Live stream: CBSSports.com | Mobile: CBS Sports App (Free)
Spread: Nevada -1.5 | Will the Wolf Pack cover? Check out SportsLine's Week 9 projections here

Nothing has been pretty this season for Nevada. Not even the team's 6-0 win against San Diego State in Week 8. The Wolf Pack will gladly accept any momentum from their first victory in more than 12 months, but an offense averaging just 15.7 points per game paired with a defense averaging 468.7 yards allowed -- second-to-last in the FBS -- is far from a winning formula. New Mexico has suffered from comparable defensive struggles. Opponents are averaging 421.4 yards and 32.6 points against the Lobos, but a New Mexico's offense, which is averaging 29.9 points per contest, has kept things from sinking to the level the Wolf Pack has dealt with.

Dish's 5G network in Las Vegas shows big improvement - FierceWireless

A new study by Signals Research Group (SRG) shows marked advances in Dish Network’s 5G network in Las Vegas compared to a year ago.

“The downlink is much better than it was last year,” said Mike Thelander, president and founder of SRG. “It still falls a little bit short of what you might expect,” but as SRG’s latest report suggests, the network performance is a matter of “night and day” compared to a year ago.

‘Some flaky things’ in 2022

When SRG conducted tests in 2022, they didn’t have the ability to log chipset data, which limited their ability to analyze the data. Still, “we had enough insight to know there were some flaky things going on with how they used carrier aggregation,” Thelander told Fierce.

For example, the throughput would “fall off a cliff” when trying to do a cell handover. “It was just all over the map,” he said. Calls switched to the AT&T network too often. In addition, the density of Dish’s network at that time was pretty light, which impacted performance.

Since then, Dish has launched 3 carrier aggregation (CA), and the throughput on the downlink is much more consistent and higher than it was in 2022, Thelander said. SRG recorded an average data speed of 307 Mbps and nearly 500 Mbps at the 90th percentile, or more than 2x higher than they observed in 2022.

As for voice quality, “it was a lot better, but room for improvement,” he said. Compared with T-Mobile’s Voice over New Radio (VoNR) in the same market, Dish’s 5G VoNR didn’t stack up. “It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t as good,” he said.

Last year, they tested Dish’s network in stationary positions and call quality was highly erratic; it was even worse when driving around.

“This year, it wasn’t by any means perfect, but we stayed on Dish the entire time we tested, so they’ve definitely built out their network” and there’s no need to hand off to MVNO partner AT&T like it did last year. “The quality of voice was good. I wouldn’t call it as good as T-Mobile’s.”

Concerns about uplink

The biggest area needing improvement is in the uplink performance, he said.

SRG tested with the UDP and HTTP protocols. The UDP is more video-centric. HTTP is more about sending emails or documents, he said, and that’s where they saw problems. “It was not good, and that’s being nice. It was bad last year and it hasn’t gotten any better. So that was a concern … Whatever is causing the problem, it wasn’t good,” he said.

Dish recently announced a technical breakthrough with Qualcomm and Samsung that sets the scene for faster download and upload speeds. The test was done in both Dish labs and in the field, and Dish said it will soon benefit Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite customers.

Dish is the first in the U.S. with a network built entirely on open Radio Access Network (RAN) technology and prides itself in its cloud-native approach. It was the first U.S. operator to launch a 5G voice service, or VoNR, going live in Las Vegas last year, and it’s been steadily increasing VoNR functionality in additional markets.

Dish is using Mavenir for its centralized unit (CU) and decentralized unit (DU) deployment and Fujitsu for the radio units (RU). Ericsson is the RAN vendor for T-Mobile in Las Vegas. SRG conducted its tests using two Motorola Edge + smartphones and two Samsung Galaxy A23 smartphones to collect data on the Dish Wireless network. Accuver Americas, Rohde & Schwarz and Spirent Communications provided test equipment and platforms.

SRG said they’d like to claim they did an open RAN benchmark study “since it would generate a lot of buzz,” but the reality is they “merely tested a multi-vendor RAN deployment” in Las Vegas. The report noted that “we’re not even sure what an Open RAN benchmark study would look like since testing the various Open RAN interfaces is really about conformance and not performance.”

SRG charts

The tests by SRG primarily focused on Band n70 for Dish and Band n25 for T-Mobile, which are both in the 1.9 GHz range, offering a more apples-to-apples comparison than mixing up or using other spectrum bands.

One reason to focus on Las Vegas now is it was Dish’s first market. Plus, SRG analysts just happened to be in the city for MWC 2023 in September. Thelander said where he lives in Minnesota, Dish provides the second-best performance behind Verizon. He’s not going to switch, but “they can offer a pretty satisfactory service.”

SRG’s report said they made Dish aware of their plans to test its network but ended up being solely responsible for all logistics, including device procurement, SIMs, et cetera. By “going it alone,” SRG said it gained insight into some of the limitations of the current subscriber procurement and device provisioning processes.

Fierce reached out to Dish for comment and will add to this story with any updates.

David Fincher Says a 'Social Network' Sequel Would Be a 'Can of Worms' - IndieWire

David Fincher isn’t looking to return to “The Social Network” anytime soon.

The “Killer” director told The Guardian in a wide-ranging interview that the 2010 Oscar-winning film could warrant a follow-up for fans, but that it would be a “can of worms” to untangle. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay charting the rise of Facebook through the perspective of creator Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg. Andrew Garfield, Armie Hammer, and Rooney Mara also starred.

“Aaron [Sorkin] and I have talked about it,” Fincher said, “but that’s a can of worms.”

The director instead pointed to the possible franchise of “The Killer” starring Michael Fassbender. The Netflix film, penned by Fincher’s “Se7en” screenwriter, is based on the French graphic novel series that spans 15 volumes.

“One would think [it would warrant a sequel],” Fincher said. “I’ve given up on trying to predict what people want.”

Related Stories

The director also shrugged off the label of being an “auteur,” saying, “There’s this fallacy that film directors come in and explain exactly what it is that they want to see and then they go to their trailer,” he says. “And then it’s presented to them and they make a few revisions, and then it’s trapped in aspic for all eternity. That’s just not it. It’s much more sock puppetry and daycare and plumbing – you know, pouring concrete. It’s a lot more physical labour than people probably imagine.”

Fincher concluded that the lack of consistency in subject matter across his films also undermines the auteur label.

“I’m so bad at that,” Fincher said. “Because a) I don’t care. But b) At the point in time I was making ‘Fight Club,’ people were saying, ‘How could you?’ And now you make something like ‘The Killer’ and people go, ‘Why aren’t you doing it like your earlier, more important movies?’ I can’t win.”

Fincher recently addressed the shelved “World War Z” sequel, saying that HBO series “The Last of Us” handled the themes better.

“I’m glad that we didn’t do what we were doing,” Fincher told GQ UK, “because ‘The Last of Us’ has a lot more real estate to explore the same stuff.”

The director was additionally tied to a “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” adaptation and the first “Blade” film.

bp boosts EV charging network with $100 million order of Tesla ultra-fast chargers | News and insights | Home - BP

Today bp (NYSE: bp) announced a deal in which bp pulse, bp’s EV charging business, will acquire ultra-fast charging hardware units from Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) for $100 million. The investment will facilitate the expansion of the bp pulse public network across the US, while also enabling support for EV fleet customers by deploying chargers at their private depots. The introduction of Tesla’s chargers to the bp pulse network is the first time the hardware will be purchased for an independent EV charging network.

The roll-out is planned to begin in 2024 and locations will include key sites across the bp family of brands, including TravelCenters of America, Thorntons, ampm; and Amoco, as well as at bp pulse’s large-scale Gigahub™ charging sites in major metropolitan areas and at third-party locations, such as Hertz locations, as part of previously announced collaborations. The first installation sites have been identified in Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago; and Washington D.C.

Tesla’s chargers will also be deployed at select bp pulse fleet customer depots. By pairing bp pulse’s industry-leading, intelligent charge management software, Omega, with Tesla’s fast and reliable chargers, bp pulse gains the distinctive capability to oversee the entire charging process for EV fleets, providing a comprehensive solution for its fleet customers.

“Strengthening the bp pulse network with Tesla’s industry-leading hardware is a major step forward in our ambitions for high speed, open access charging infrastructure in the US and advances our ambition to delivering an exceptional customer experience,” said Richard Bartlett, global CEO of bp pulse. “Combined with our vast network of convenience and mobility sites on and off the highway, this collaboration with Tesla will bring fast and reliable charging to EV drivers when and where they need it.”

Richard Bartlett, global CEO of bp pulse

The Tesla ultra-fast chargers, which have an output of 250 kW, will be branded, installed and operated by bp pulse. The chargers will be fitted with Tesla’s ‘Magic Dock’, which is compatible with both North American Charging Standard (NACS) and Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors. This enables EVs from other major vehicle manufacturers to use the Tesla chargers on the bp pulse’s network, regardless of whether they use CCS or NACS ports. To further improve user experience, the Tesla chargers will support use of the Plug and Charge protocol, which simplifies and automates payments. As is Tesla's current policy, third-party operated ultra-fast chargers meeting Tesla's reliability and functionality requirements are featured in Tesla's vehicle UI and apps, and bp pulse expects to uphold those requirements on its network.

Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla's Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure said: “At Tesla, we’re driven to enable great charging experiences for all EV owners. Selling our fast-charging hardware is a new step for us, and one we’re looking to expand in support of our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. We appreciate bp’s partnership in this area – it’s the right step towards a more sustainable future.”

“This is another example of how bp pulse is collaborating with leaders across the industry, in areas including real estate, charging technology and automakers, to advance EV infrastructure growth across the US, and to deliver the fast and reliable charging experience we know our customers demand,” said Sujay Sharma, CEO bp pulse Americas. “We remain open and committed to expanding alliances with EV industry leaders even further and we look forward to welcoming the growing number of EV drivers across the country to our network.”

In addition to this deal with Tesla, bp pulse aims to continue deploying additional fast and reliable charging points at high-demand locations, such as airports, major metropolitan areas, and bp-owned and operated properties along Alternative Fueling Corridors. Furthermore, bp has been awarded grant funds through programs like National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) and California Energy Commission (CEC) to provide charging infrastructure at sites in California, Pennsylvania, Colorado; and Kentucky.

In February 2023, bp announced plans to invest $1 billion in America's EV charging infrastructure by 2030 with an aim of investing $500 million in the next two to three years. Our five transition growth engines – bioenergy, convenience, EV charging through our charging business bp pulse, hydrogen, renewables and power – made up around 30% of bp’s total investment in 2022, up from around 3% in 2019.

NBA Best Bets Today | Expert Picks for Wednesday

Rockets vs. Magic

By Jim Turvey

It might not be the sexiest game on the board, but for weird NBA Twitter folks, Houston Rockets vs. Orlando Magic is going to be a really fun Opening Night watch. Two teams trying to make the leap into the playoff contender tier in opposite conferences and with somewhat opposite approaches.

Orlando is looking to build from within, hoping to use internal growth as the step ladder to the postseason, while the Rockets went out and grabbed several of the biggest names in free agency this summer. It is in part due to those new signings, as well as that internal growth, that I like this bet.

Houston now has Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks looking to get up shots alongside Jalen Green, who will likely take some time to adjust to his new backcourt mates.

On the flip side of that coin, he also is going to have to deal with Jalen Suggs, who has a questionable sophomore season on the offensive side of things, but has already become an elite defender, particularly on-ball, through his first two seasons.

Another season of growth for him, as well as the chance to go up against one of the four guys taken ahead of him in the 2021 NBA Draft makes this a perfect spot to fade Jalen Green's points total. I'd play this to under 21.5 -115, but as of Wednesday afternoon, this is actually moving in our favor. The current line is 23.5 at Caesars. And make sure to use our Caesars Sportsbook promo code!

Pick: Jalen Green Under 23.5 Points (-127)

Cavs vs. Nets

By Alex Kolodziej

The second-best spread pick in our subscription PRO tools tonight, sorted by strength of prediction, is the Brooklyn Nets as small underdogs.

They aren't a very popular pick, attracting only 17% of the bet slips we track. However, 45% of the money in the NBA spread market is on the Nets to cover tonight.

Brooklyn is +1 in some spots, but the best odds at the time of writing are at FanDuel (+2.5). We would play this one to Nets +1, though.

Pick: Nets +2.5 | Play to +1

Pistons vs. Heat

By Bryan Fonseca

As someone who expects a lot from Cade Cunningham this season, I was surprised to see him open this campaign at a 19.5 over or under for points. The Miami Heat should be strong defensively once again, but their perimeter defense will be one to watch when Bam Adebayo isn't on a switch. Tyler Herro and Kyle Lowry is not ideal.

Some thought we'd see Herro and Josh Richardson, and we should at some point, but even so — especially without Haywood Highsmith in spots — Cunningham should have looks, and if nothing else, will hoist the attempts you need for the over. It's potentially an inefficient 20, but i still think it's a 20, even in the even Miami wins.

Pick: Cade Cunningham Over 19.5 Points (+100)

Mavericks vs. Spurs

By Joe Dellera

Wemby just averaged 2.75 turnovers in 21 mpg during the preseason which is approximately 4.55 turnovers per 36 minutes. Those never translate perfectly but the idea here is while he has looked exceptional defensively due to his length, that same length may make him more prone to turnovers.

In his last professional season in France he recorded 2+ turnovers in 27/34 games while averaging 2.65 per game. One comparison point is Kevin Durant. In Durant's rookie season he averaged 2.9 turnovers but in his first month he averaged 3.5 per game as he adjusted to the league. In preseason, Wembanyama struggled a bit with double teams, and given his length, I expect him to have difficulty handling those situations where he could have his pockets picked.

Pick: Victor Wembanyama Over 1.5 Turnovers (-130)
