It was late October 2019, when different academics and activists from all over Latin America were preparing to meet in the south of Chile to share our ideas and perspectives on UBI for the first time. The idea of forming a regional basic income network had been present for a long time and people were eager to contribute to it.

Suddenly, Chilean police and army went to the streets to suppress unarmed protestors. What started as high-school students protesting the rising metro fees became the a turning point in Chile’s history. The basic income event was sadly cancelled but the seed of something else was planted.

Fast forward to early March 2020, together with Gabriela Cabaña we decided to kick-start the network. Our first call was on Monday, March 9th, one day after the biggest protest turnout in Chile, on the eve when petrol prices went negative and right before the COVID-19 pandemic spread to most countries. We did not know what to expect next.

After the Corona virus hit, the interest on basic income surged tremendously in Latin America. In a matter of months, UBI in Latin America has gone from being almost no-where in the political radar to being the politics of the future, with events discussing the idea in countries like Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Uruguay.

The Latin American Basic Income Network meets once a month. Since July and with the help of the Institute of Central American Fiscal Studies (ICEFI), the network has started to organize a series of talks in order to contextualize the importance of basic income in the region. You can watch the first one here, featuring Pablo Yanes (Mexico), Nelson Villarreal Durán (Uruguay) and Alejandra Zúñiga Fajuri (Chile), on the present importance of basic income.

Our goal is to produce a Latin American perspective on Basic Income, situating it in the socio-political context of the region on all it’s different dimensions, such as ecology, indigenous perspectives, welfare, democracy and so on. The next talk will be held on August 4th, 16h CDT, titled “Feminist Perspectives on Basic Income” which can be streamed live and viewed here.

McPhy will design, manufacture and integrate a complete zero-carbon hydrogen production and distribution chain including two hydrogen refueling stations and 1 MW of electrolysis, for a turnover of nearly €4 million.

La Motte-Fanjas, August 03 2020 – 07.30 am CEST – McPhy (Euronext Paris Compartment C: MCPHY, FR0011742329) specialized in zero-carbon hydrogen production and distribution equipment, today announced having been selected to provide a complete zero-carbon hydrogen production and distribution chain for industrial and mobility applications¹.

For the mobility part, the solution includes two hydrogen stations, one of them offering a "Dual Pressure" configuration (two distribution pressures: 350 and 700 bar), able to refuel all types of vehicles.

The McLyzer high-power electrolyzer, able to produce more than 400 kg of zero-carbon hydrogen per day, representing a power of 1 MW, will supply the McPhy hydrogen stations, but also industrial sites willing to decarbonize their processes.

This new project, totaling nearly €4 million, brings to 44 MW² and 35 stations³ the number of McPhy references and confirms the leap of zero-carbon hydrogen in France.

Warframe‘s next big expansion is adding a whole new layer of customisation for your space ninja toolbelt. With the arrival of Heart of Deimos, you’ll be able to recycle old warframes to use their powers with the warframes you rely on most, but you’ll have to be willing to part ways permanently with the old suits.

Heart of Deimos introduces the Helminth Chrysalis system, which developer Digital Extremes revealed at TennoCon 2020. Warframe players will already be somewhat familiar with the Helminth, which is an organism that lives aboard the Orbiter and up until now has only manifested itself in various growths and the Helminth cysts that grow on infected warframes.

Well, Heart of Deimos will be letting us come a bit more face to face with the Helminth in the free to play game. When you head back to the infirmary, you’ll find a massive Little Shop of Horrors style mouth protruding from the back wall, as well as a new area of infestation just to the left. By sacrificing an old warframe to the Helminth and keeping its ‘secretion’ meters topped off, you’ll be able to harvest one of the old warframe’s powers for use in other warframes.

That warframe will be consumed over the course of 24 hours, but you’ll keep the power you’ve harvested from it. Sacrifice a Volt, for example, and you’ll be able to equip other warframes with his signature shock ability.

It’s important to note that the only warframes you can sacrifice to the Helminth Chrysalis system are the ‘vanilla’ warframes that you can earn repeatedly through in-game activities – Digital Extremes says it isn’t going to let you sacrifice premium Prime warframes, although these can be modified with abilities you’ve harvested from other suits.

There’s plenty more to look forward to about Heart of Deimos, from undead mechs to rideable dragonflies. The Heart of Deimos release date is set for August 25.

COVID-19 Prevention Network seeking volunteers for vaccine clinical trial - KABC-TV

As medical professionals continue to work on a COVID-19 vaccine, one group is looking for adults of all races, ethnic groups, sexes and genders to volunteer for a clinical trial.

It does not matter if you're not in perfect health because researchers with the COVID-19 Prevention Network want to see how the vaccine affects people with underlying health conditions.

It's important to note that the vaccine trial will require a significant time commitment.

Participants will have to visit a research site up to a dozen times and keep track of how they feel after receiving a shot.

Those over the age of 18 interested in volunteering can visit the COVID-19 Prevention Network website to fill out a survey and see if they qualify for the trial.
