NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah leads insider 1st-round mock, picks dynamic playmakers for Giants, Jets - NJ.com

In four days, the Jacksonville Jaguars will be on the clock for the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

But look for early moments of the draft to be dominated by the New York Giants and New York Jets, each of whom has a pair of top-10 picks.

NFL Network NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah headlined an insider first-round mock Sunday, during which he was joined by colleagues Bucky Brooks, Colleen Wolfe and Rhett Lewis.

Here’s what they came up with:

JETS

4. NYJ: Daniel Jeremiah selects Cincinnati cornerback Sauce Gardner as the No. 4 overall pick for the New York Jets.

10. NYJ (from SEA): NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah selects USC Trojans wide receiver Drake London as the No. 10 overall pick for the New York Jets.

In his previous first-round mock, Jeremiah had the Jets taking Gardner at No.4 and London at No. 10.

In an earlier first-round mock, Jeremiah had the Jets going with N.C. State offensive tackle Ickey Ekwonu at No. 4 and Gardner at No. 10.

Google Cloud's Media CDN lets companies build on the network that keeps YouTube running - The Verge

Companies like Netflix, Disney, and HBO do battle over media streaming of movies and TV shows, but all of their services combined pale in comparison to YouTube, which says it delivers over a billion hours of video streams every single day. Now, Google Cloud is announcing general availability of its Media CDN, a network for media companies to use for their own streaming experiences. Competitors like Microsoft Azure, Amazon CloudFront, Fastly, and Cloudflare are already in the market, but none of them can point to the service so many people use every day to help sell their products.

As we noted two years ago, the world is streaming more video than ever, and things have not slowed down since. While we think a lot about the algorithms that drive engagement on YouTube, the actual network that keeps the videos streaming is what makes the entire thing work as well as it has since Google bought the video platform for $1.65 billion in 2006.

The pitch is laid out plainly in a statement issued at the 2022 NAB Show Streaming Summit, “The same infrastructure that Google has built over the last decade to serve YouTube content to over 2 billion users is now being leveraged to deliver media at scale to Google Cloud customers with Media CDN.”

YouTube has the occasional outage. But unless you’re willing to build the next Netflix, operating on a network of servers that claims to reach “over 200 countries and more than 1,300 cities around the globe,” could be a big help in keeping things running, and now it’s available to more businesses. It also includes support for modern transport protocols like QUIC to use less data and deliver content smoothly — as well as the APIs media companies use to serve advertisements — add real-time data feeds for live sports broadcasts, and support new platforms.

Faith-Based Impact Network Moves Into Entertainment With Chief Creative Officer, Detroit Production Facility (EXCLUSIVE) - Variety

African American-founded, faith-based channel Impact Network is making a big push into entertainment and lifestyle content with the ramping up of its Saturday programming slate, the hiring of a new chief creative officer and executive producer of original content, and the launch of a 6,000-foot production facility in Detroit with a music division, Variety has learned exclusively.

The privately owned Impact Network has a reach of 80 million homes and distribution deals with DirecTV, Comcast Xfinity, Charter Spectrum, Verizon Fios, Frontier, Cable Bahamas, Cox and Altice USA. Founder and CEO Bishop Wayne T. Jackson is looking to increase that footprint by beefing up the channel’s previously announced “Super Saturdays” block of programming, which will include talker/cooking show “Soul Food With Tara Wallace” and the Fredro Starr-hosted “Behind the Grind,” with the additions of music-video countdown show “Turn Up!” and “Impact-Plus,” an initiative that will give independent and established creators a platform to present their original content on Impact Network.

Leading this effort is Bishop Wayne T. Jackson’s son Royal Jackson, who has been promoted from director of marketing to Impact Network’s newly created role of chief creative officer and executive producer of original content. He will oversee all crossover efforts for the network and manage programming, as well as produce and direct select content for the expanding lifestyle block.

“As newly named chief creative officer, I am excited to expand the network’s reach into crossover mainstream programming as we continue to inspire and engage our loyal audience base while gaining new viewers,” Royal Jackson said. “Impact’s new ‘Super Saturdays’ lineup will have something for everyone and is just a sample of what’s to come as the network continues to build and expand beyond Saturdays and into weekly dayparts. Our plan is to build on the network’s loyal, multi-generational audience profile and engage them in a variety of ways.”

Bishop Wayne T. Jackson added: “For the past 12 years, my son has been an intricate part of this company helping brand the network to where it is today as he continues to build the foundation for this exciting direction. With his creative leadership, I am excited for Royal to lead our growth as we continue to evolve and provide more for our community’s future.”

“Turn Up!” is described as “an uplifting music video countdown series with ground-breaking videos from some of the music industry’s largest and independent labels. Each episode is hosted by various artists and will feature the hottest music videos across contemporary gospel, CCM, hip-hop and soul genres. Impact is working with multiple labels including Sony-RCA Inspiration for the content. The series is scheduled to film this summer in Detroit.”

Coinciding with the production of “Turn Up!,” Impact is launching Detroit-based production facility Impact Network Studios and a music division that will focus on creating cross-media, advertising and branded content promotional opportunities for Impact’s partner labels and artists to expand their reach and fanbase while on tour and during release.

Per Impact Network, “Phase one of Impact Network Studios, targeted to open in July, will have six brand-new sets with flexible interchangeable scenes and cyc wall green screen, and not only be a home to producing their own original content for the network, but open to other producers, production companies and clients as well. The diverse collection of sets includes 10-20 ft. LED Screens; LED color accent lights for scene variations and moods; standalone versatile elements such as pillars, panels and columns to be used to maximize the studio’s interchangeable concepts, along with varying furniture pieces and set dressings customizable for any production. Beyond the studio itself, the production facility will expand into a media lounge with multiple dressing rooms, offices, and make-up and green rooms, where talent and their teams can reside comfortably while other programs are recording.”

Impact Network will launch its “Super Saturdays” block of programming in June, starting with “Soul Food” and leading into the debut of “Behind the Grind” in July. The channel will also be adding a Saturday-night movie component. Meanwhile, “Turn Up!” will start airing mid-fall.

Over the course of the next year, Impact Network aims to increase “Super Saturdays” into a full day’s worth of “diverse enriching and entertaining programs that range from talk, lifestyle, music, entertainment, and community awareness.” That will include the offerings that are brought in through “Impact-Plus,” which has a content partnership and license agreement from NewUrbanTV (Urban Beauty TV, UrbanMD & Wildfire TV), as well as content from StellarTV, Lionsgate and Mann’s Mackie Studios.

“In our 12th anniversary year, the Impact Network continues to trailblaze new ways to make a difference in the lives of others,” Bishop Wayne T. Jackson said. “‘Super Saturdays’ provides positive and impactful content to enrich not only the soul of the individual, but the soul of the community.”

Panthers not expected to trade for Browns QB Baker Mayfield prior to first round of 2022 NFL Draft - NFL.com

If the Carolina Panthers make a play for veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield, it won't be before Thursday night.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the Panthers are not expected to trade for Mayfield prior to the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, if they do it at all, per sources informed of the situation.

The Panthers, who pick at No. 6 overall, want Thursday to play out first before reassessing where they are vis-à-vis Mayfield. Obviously, if they select a QB in the first round, that would wipe out the need for a Mayfield trade.

The former Browns No. 1 overall pick has been on the trade block since Cleveland traded for Deshaun Watson.

Earlier in the process, the Panthers didn't have interest in pairing Mayfield with fellow 2018 draftee Sam Darnold and, likewise, Mayfield wasn't much interested in Carolina.

However, as the QB carousel has continued to spin, there are few landing spots left where Mayfield would have a shot to start. Carolina and Seattle remain the most obvious landing spots, but there has been little interest generated.

With draft week upon us, we'll see if interest changes. For the Panthers, they'll wait until the first round of the draft at least to reassess the landscape.

Pro Football Network Seven-Round Mock: Packers Leap for London - Sports Illustrated

Measureables: 6-1 1/2, 179. 9 1/4 hands. DNP testing (knee).

Stats: Williams caught 15 passes at Ohio State but had 79 receptions for 1,572 yards (19.9 average) and 15 touchdowns upon transferring to Alabama. He was a first-team All-American and the SEC’s leader in receiving yards and touchdowns. As an added bonus, he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Deeper Stats: According to PFF, he had six drops (7.1 percent), averaged 9.3 YAC and had 13 receptions on passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield. His contested-catch rate was 40.0 percent. According to Sports Info Solutions, he averaged 16 missed tackles per 100 touches, No. 23 in the draft class, but was No. 1 with 13.1 yards per target.

Personal Touch: The native of St. Louis won Missouri state track and field championships in the 300-meter hurdles and 400 meters, and he broke Ezekiel Elliott’s state record in the 300 hurdles. “I have speed you can’t teach,” Williams said at the Combine. “I’ve got a lot of speed.” If not for the torn ACL, he might have won a national championship.

“Going through the practices,” he said at pro day. “Seeing Coach Saban’s defenses, it’s one of the best defenses I’ve ever seen. It has a lot of things in it and I really think it’s an advanced defense. So if you get a chance to go against this defense, it helps you a lot.

“The competition, everything that’s about Alabama football helped me become a better man, a better football player, a better receiver. … It all came together and hit me. I want to be the best. I’ve been wanting to be the best but when I came here, it just upped it to another level.”

As noted by The Sporting News, Williams had more touchdowns of 70 yards, 60 yards, 50 yards, 40 yards 30 yards and 20 yards than any receiver in FBS.

“I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve coached a ton of great receivers,” Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien told Sporting News. “And Jameson, relative to the stage of his career that he’s at, being a college football player and having a chance probably to play pro football … Excellent speed, excellent route-runner, very competitive guy. He’s a very instinctive player. He’s a very smart player. And I can’t say enough about his competitiveness. He’s a player that goes out and practices every day like it’s a game.

“And so I think that’s something that the great ones have – those traits. Everybody’s a little bit different. Everybody’s built differently. Everybody has different skill sets, different speed, things like that. But the best ones that I’ve been around, and Jameson’s in that category, they all have that competitive spirit that’s really hard to find sometimes.”

Williams told NFL Media's James Palmer that he is ahead of schedule in his recovery. He is also "getting a lot of movement" as he works in the pool and does some slight jogging. All of this progress has Williams hopeful that he'll be ready to take the field to start training camp.

"That's what I'm shooting for," said Williams of possibly being ready for training camp. "What overrules that is just making sure I'm 100% before I do anything. That would be my timeframe, but I'm just going to make sure everything is 100% before I come back just so I can be right."

NFL Draft Bible Scouting Report: Williams displays track-level speed and explosiveness at all times. Hard cuts at the top of routes are able to create separation. Has a unique ability to drop his hips and stop his momentum instantly. Shows the advanced route-running ability to change speeds throughout his stem. A threat to overtop and can win downfield. Will do a good job finding and adjusting to the ball. After the catch, Williams has the ability to make people miss and make plays in space. Extremely gifted athlete with quick feet and can run any route in a system.

Network attacks increased to a 3-year high - Help Net Security

In this video for Help Net Security, Corey Nachreiner, CSO at WatchGuard Technologies, gives a high-level summary of the Internet Security Report for Q4 2021, which revealed all of the threats were up, whether they’re network attacks or malware.

When the pandemic started, the research team saw a big drop in malware being detected by network security devices. In this period, tech based jobs moved to remote work, which meant a lot of users were no longer browsing the internet and encountering bad things through the network security control at the office. That’s probably why network detection for malware dropped quite a bit at the beginning of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, network attacks continued to rise even through the pandemic, since the servers still lived at the offices and the cloud, and network security still protected those.

The big teakaway in Q4 2021 is that malware rose significantly, returning to normal levels. The reason might be the holiday season, but it’s most probably the fact that, at the end of last year, a lot of tech-based offices started reopening and offering employees to come back in, and thus there’s a bigger chance for network security controls to catch malware.
