SEC Network 'takeover' announced for next two weeks - 247Sports

With athletics - along with the many of the rest of the country's industries at a halt due to coronavirus fears, it has left sports fans clamoring for anything to watch on television as they look to fill the void of live sports.

This is usually a big time of year with the NCAA tournament, the Masters, NBA, NHL, college baseball and a number of other sports taking place. However, those are all suspended indefinitely as the country practices social distancing in order to stop the spread of the epidemic.

The SEC Network has a gift to fans, though. For at least one day over the next two weeks, they can watch a full 24 hours straight of their favorite teams.

The network announced another 'takeover' of the network, which gives each school a dedicated 24 hours of programming. The schools don't actually get to pick what will air but, in the past, the network has done a good job in lining up programming that fans want to see.

With Texas A&M in the Southeastern Conference, the Aggies get their day in the spotlight. Unfortunately, though, A&M's day will not come until Week 2 as the network has slotted the schools alphabetically.

With the takeover beginning on Mon., Mar. 16 with Alabama, Texas A&M is scheduled for Sat., Mar. 28.

The programming has not been announced yet, but in the past there have been games involving otherwordly performances by Johnny Manziel and Acie Law in football and basketball, respectively. There have also been some classic bowl games shown as the Wrecking Crew of the 80s and 90s dominated some very good opponents in the postseason.

We should have a better idea closer to the date, but Aggie fans should go ahead and prepare for Mar. 28 as a day they either don't leave the coach or DVR everything to pass the time while we await the return of live sports.

The NCAA has currently suspended all sporting activities until at least Apr. 15. Depending on how the next month goes in stopping the spread of the virus, things could be resumed after that or the suspension could continue. However, the governing body has already canceled all championships for spring sports, including both the men's and women's College World Series set for June. Some conferences have already indicated that those seasons will be over, but the SEC has not come out and said it. There is still a possibility they play out the remainder of the baseball and softball schedules, among other sports, despite knowing there will be no postseason. In good news, though, players from those spring sports will not be using a year of eligibility this season, no matter if the SEC decides to play any more of the schedule or not.

If the ban on athletic activities is lifted in mid-April, Texas A&M will likely at least be able to have some sort of spring football. It had been set to begin on Mar. 23 and last through the Maroon and White game on Apr. 18. What it would look like should A&M be able to get practices in is anybody's guess at this point as this is an unprecented moment in college athletics. The rulebook would have to be amended to allow for practice later in the year.
