Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders leaving analyst job at NFL Network - USA TODAY

One of the NFL Network's longest-tenured analysts, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, will no longer be a part of the network.

"Deion has been one of the key figures responsible for the growth of NFL Network," NFL Network vice president of communications for NFL media Alex Riethmiller said Tuesday in a statement. "We thank him for his work and wish him the best in the future."

The Sports Business Journal, which was first to report the news Tuesday, also reported that it was Sanders who opted to leave the network after his contract had expired.

Sanders had been contributing to NFL Network broadcasts since 2006. He played 14 seasons in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington and the Baltimore Ravens and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. His 53 career interceptions are tied for 24th most in NFL history.

Sanders has spoken publicly about his desire to get into coaching after serving as offensive coordinator of Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. In January, Sanders appeared on the "Dan Patrick Show" and said he would be a head coach in college football for the 2021 season.

In recent days, Sanders has been criticized for making comments on Twitter that questioned players who have decided to opt out of the 2020 season due to coronavirus fears.

"All Players OPTING out in all sports PLEASE BELIEVE the game will go on without u," Sanders wrote Friday. "This is a business & don’t u EVER forget that. There’s NO ONE that’s bigger than the game itself. Only the ref, umps & officials are that important that u can’t play without them. NOT YOU! #Truth"
