Borderlands 3 has a literal ton of guns in the game. Still, the title goes even further in the name of customization and offers skins for players to really personalize their favorite weapons.
However, finding and equipping weapon skins in Borderlands 3 can sometimes be difficult. Tis guide will reveal exactly what players need to do to have super-custom weapons that match their preferred aesthetic.
How to Get Skins
Before players can equip a weapon skin, they need to unlock them in-game. There are two ways for players to unlock skins in Borderlands 3. The easiest and most common way to get weapon skins is to loot them off enemies, just like any other item.
The other way to get skins is to purchase them from Crazy Earl's Eridium shop, which is located in Sanctuary. From the fast travel point in the ship, head to the cargo bay or "Ellie's Room." Once there, players should continue down the stairs until they reach the bottom floor. In that area will be a purple door, where they can find Crazy Earl and his shop. There, they can spend Eridium on weapon skins and a bunch of other cosmetic options.
How to Equip Skins
Once players have a weapon skin in Borderlands 3, it will either go directly into their skins collection or become an item in their inventory. If the latter, players just need to open their inventory and use the skin to add it to their collection. The same goes for character skins and other cosmetic items.
With skins in their collection, players can apply them to any gun they want, at any time. First, players open their inventory. Then, they choose the weapon they want to put the skin on and inspect it. On the inspection screen, players can see detailed information on the weapon and its currently-equipped skin.
Here is where things can get tricky. There is a known bug on the inspection screen in Borderlands 3. Sometimes the button to change weapon skins doesn't appear on screen. The ability to equip weapon skins is still there; there is just no in-game indicator telling players how to do it.
On the home inspect screen for a weapon, players can press X on PC, Y on the Xbox controller, or triangle on PlayStation to bring up their weapon skins collection. From there, they can see how each skin looks on the weapon and choose which one they want to rock for the next mission.
