One aspect of Assassin's Creed Valhalla that players often overlook is the use of abilities. You can equip four to use during ranged attacks, and four more for melee attacks. It can be difficult to choose which ones to use, but some are much better than others.
The abilities are for numerous playstyles, although, the best combination is to have at least one from each branch in your arsenal. They can be acquired by finding different Books of Knowledge, and sometimes it is worth it to find their upgrade. Keep reading to learn about the best abilities you should be using and where to find them!
Mark Of Death
The Mark of Death is a ranged attack that releases a deadly volley of arrows that comes down on your enemies. All you have to do is mark your targets and then let them loose, and the upgrade allows you to hit even more targets. There is one located in Grantebridgescire in the Meldeburne Monastery, and the other can be found in a cellar in Hordafylke.
Fire Strike
This ability can be equipped as both a melee and ranged attack and it ignites your weapon with fire. One hit with your ax or an arrow will have them screaming in pain as the flames engulf them during your fight with them, and it is great in fights against mythological creatures. The upgrade for this ability creates a fiery arc that catches enemies on fire in front of you and these can only be earned by bringing Order of the Ancients medallions to Hytham.
Throwing Axe Fury
When Eivor uses this ability he will throw axes at any enemy within range, which can be very useful when you're outnumbered. The upgrade for this ability guarantees that any enemy who is struck by an ax will also be staggered as well, which is something everyone wishes they knew before playing. One can be found in a village in Rygjafylke called Nottfall and the other can be acquired following the completion of the story arc at Gaustow Castle in Sciropescire.
Rage Of Helheim
The Rage of Helheim is exactly as it sounds, as it shows Eivor's temper exploding as he pins an enemy to the ground with a barrage of hits. The upgrade for this allows more blows the faster a player taps, and it is a great way to reduce any elite enemy's health.
The first Book of Knowledge is in Rygjafylke behind Kjotve’s Fortress, so it can be acquired fairly early on in the game. The second can be found in the Archives of Jorvik, which will be open about halfway through the story.
Kick Of Tyr
This is a powerful kick that Eivor can use to send her enemies flying backward into their fellow brethren or a wall. The upgrade ensures that the enemies hit the ground and fail to stand back up for a few seconds, giving Eivor time to finish them. This ability can be found in Eurvicscire and at Ulkerthorpe Fort in Snotinghamscire.
Incendiary Power Trap
This is a ranged ability that allows a shot arrow to spread incendiary powder that will ignite with any nearby movement. It can be great when stealth is your friend, but it can also be used to break walls instead of searching for the explosive red pots. The upgrade ensures that the powder can be ignited twice, and this ability can be found in Grantebridgescire and Suthsexe which are two of the best locations in the game.
Man's Best Friend
All Viking should have their own personal wolf to do their bidding, which is exactly what this ability does for Eivor. It will call upon a white wolf to take out an enemy, and the upgrade ensures that the wolf will stay by your side until the end of the fight.
This is first acquired by completing a quest in Raventhorpe called A Little Problem, where you will even have the ability to choose its name, which is one of the best parts of the game. The second can be found in Lunden at Crepelgate Fort, and it is well worth it to find the upgrade for this ability.
Harpoon Impalement
Eivor can impale her enemies with a harpoon by using this skill and then continue to drag them about to hit other enemies and objects. The upgrade allows Eivor to bring them close and perform a finishing move on them, but this skill is also useful for removing an enemy's shield. This can be found in Ledecestrescire in some Roman ruins, as well as in Essexe in Santa Helena’s church.
Poison Strike
This is another ability that can be both ranged and a melee ability, as it applies poison to the tips of your arrows and your blade. The upgrade is the same as the fire strike, as it will create a poison arc that will poison any enemies within its reach. This can be acquired by completing the side quests of killing the members of the Order of the Ancients and bringing the medallions back to Hytham.
Dive Of The Valkyries
This is one of the most useful melee abilities to create an overpowered character as it requires little thought or skill to use it. Eivor will launch herself in the air and come crashing down upon her enemies and the upgrade allows stun damage to be inflicted within the range of the impact. This can be acquired in Grantebridgescire while raiding Ely Monastery, and in Lunden at the Lolingestone Bandit Camp.
