CHP, Children's Resource Network of Central Coast collect donations for families in need - KSBY San Luis Obispo News

The Children's Resource Network of the Central Coast is working with the California Highway Patrol to collect toy donations for local families in need this holiday season.

CHP and the Children's Resource Network kicked off their "Chips for Kids" Toy Drive Sunday morning in Santa Maria as part of KSBY's ninth annual Season of Hope.

Student volunteers and CHP officers set up a tent outside of Walmart on Bradley Road to collect toy donations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lisa Ray, founder and CEO of the Children's Resource Network of the Central Coast, said her goal is to give presents to undocumented families, people experiencing homelessness and those unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic.

"There are many families that have been affected by COVID, and under normal circumstances, there are families that are struggling financially and we just want to make sure that the holiday spirit and Christmas gifts go to every home we know that needs gifts," said Ray.

The non-profit organization plans on collecting more donations from Dec. 11-13 outside of the following Walmart locations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • Paso Robles (180 Niblick Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446)
  • Arroyo Grande (1168 West Branch Street, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420)
  • Santa Maria (2220 South Bradley Road, Santa Maria, CA 93455)
