Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer scene continues to thrive with new players jumping in all of the time, especially because of some free multiplayer weekends that Activision offered. Due to this, many new players might be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of content on offer when it comes to equipping your character's loadout prior to battle.
While divisive to fans of the series, scorestreaks have been a long-standing feature of the Call of Duty series. Scorestreaks basically reward the player for getting lots of kills, assists, and for earning objective-based scores for your team. Black Ops Cold War features a huge array of killstreaks for players to try out. This list should help any new player to narrow down the best ones to try out first.
10 Combat Bow
The Combat Bow is one of the first and easiest scorestreaks for players to earn, coming in at the 500 point mark. The thrill of earning a scorestreak during a game is wonderful so new players should get used to equipping easily attainable ones first in order to get to grips with how they work.
The combat bow, while tough to land direct shots, can act as a great funneling tool since it burns a target area or an enemy. The combat bow might not be a popular choice for most experienced players, it absolutely helps new players to get used to a different type of weapon, especially one good for crowd control.
9 Armor
The armor scorestreak is earnable at 1,600 points. While it might take longer to earn, this armor can provide a huge help to newer players since it essentially allows you to take more damage before needing to respawn. It's not ranked as high or as widely used by players simply because Call of Duty is known for a quick time-to-kill, so, while armor can help, in the long run, it's best to find ways to avoid damage.
This scorestreak is great though because new players can quite attach it to themselves in order to burst into firefights in hopes to get some extra kills or objective points which will, in turn, go towards future scorestreaks.
8 Attack Helicopter
The attack helicopter is a scorestreak that has been around the series' online matches for many years now. This scorestreak can be very challenging to earn for players because it takes 4,000 points to achieve. The reason it can be a good choice for newer players is because it gives them a bigger scorestreak goal to work for which, in turn, can mean more decisive and thoughtful play overall.
The attack helicopter, when utilized essentially helps you rack up extra kills since you don't actually have to control it. As long as it doesn't get taken down by a SAM turret or missile, then it can last for a good amount of time, giving the new player quite a thrill. Just be prepared to work hard to get this one in a match.
7 Sentry Turret
The sentry turret scorestreak is truly fantastic, especially for objective-based modes such as domination or hardpoint. The sentry turret requires 2,000 points to acquire. Most players should be able to get this scorestreak in any given match, especially in score-based matches, as long as the objective is played.
The sentry turret is an unmanned, placeable object that can easily control a zone or choke point. It swivels from side to side, taking down any enemies with a lock-on feature. New players might have to get comfortable with the best locations for placing down the turret, but once a good location is found, it can turn the tide of a match.
6 Counter Spy Plane
The counter spy plane is an easily attainable scorestreak coming in at 1,200 points. The counter spy plane is basically just as it sounds, namely, that it counters the enemy's spy plane. Call of Duty is known for fast-paced, position-based combat and the counter spy plane can alleviate the issue of being tracked in a given match.
While the spy plan can be used at any point in a match in order to jam the enemy's map radar, it's best-used right when an enemy player throws up a regular spy plane, thus countering it. New players will like this scorestreak since it doesn't take long to earn and can help all of your teammates at once.
5 RC-XD
The RC-XD, or remote-controlled explosive device, is the second most easily attainable scorestreak option in the game, coming in at just 800 points. The RC-XD has been around the series since the first Call of Duty: Black Ops and has become a fan favorite due to being highly useful and fun to control.
Essentially, the RC-XD, once released, is a player-controlled scorestreak whereby the player drives the RC car around the map in hopes to get it close enough to enemy players before blowing it up. The RC-XD also has boosters that can be used in a pinch. But be wary, if you don't detonate it in the given time, it will do so on its own.
4 Napalm Strike
The napalm strike scorestreak can be used successfully by new players due to its ease of use and great crowd control. Unfortunately, this scorestreak takes 2,100 points so brand new players might not always get it in a given match. This scorestreak has the player choose a designated pathway for some high-powered napalm to be laid down.
While this scorestreak might not be as useful in heavily interior maps, in the outside maps, it can be a gamechanger. It takes down players right away by setting them ablaze but can also be used to block off a pathway or choke point to an objective. Plus it's just a fun scorestreak to earn since it lets you lay waste to a big chunk of the map.
3 Cruise Missile
The cruise missile scorestreak might just be one of the most fun streaks to earn in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. Coming in at 2,600 points, this streak will take some dedication and hard work to earn in a match. It's a great scorestreak to have because it's simply a blast to use.
The cruise missile is a player-controlled streak that shoots out a break apart large missiles, with smaller ones being used to lock on to opponents in order to decimate them. When used properly, you can wipe out a whole enemy team, especially in objective modes where players tend to be grouped up.
2 Care Package
The care package is a scorestreak that has been around each iteration of Call of Duty for many years. Earnable at 1,800 points, most new players should be able to get their hands on it in most matches. The best part about the care package is that it sends down a random scorestreak for the player to use. The downside is also that it's random, but, all scorestreaks provide some advantage.
The reason for this care package being good for new players is that it lets you try out an array of streaks from the best of the best to the most simple. The worst feeling in a match is when you equip a high-level scorestreak, finally get it, then use it incorrectly. The care package is a nice surprise because you can earn any of the scorestreaks on offer.
1 Spy Plane
Easily the best scorestreak for new players to Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War is the ubiquitous spy plane, attainable at 1,000 points. This scorestreak is a fan favorite, not just because of how easy it can be to earn, but because of how useful it is for the entire team.
The spy plane flies overhead and points out enemy targets on your radar. Your radar is essential for enemy positioning, especially in objective matches. While the spy plane can be shot down simply enough, when used at the right time, it can give your whole team a positioning-based advantage.
