Letter: Equip school buses with seat belts - The Columbian

As a retired elementary school teacher and a great-grandmother of school-aged children, I must say I was delighted to see all of the kids lined up, masked, to stay safe and getting on the buses to go to school again. It has been a long wait for them and they all seemed so happy.

Now, wouldn’t it be wonderful to know that they were getting on buses that would also keep them safe from any kind of road accident that might happen? We have laws requiring us to wear them in our cars, and that includes our children, but, only eight states in the country have these requirements for their buses. Wouldn’t it be great if Washington state became number nine?

Please, if you agree that this is an important issue, contact your state representatives and the governor. And, let’s do all we can to keep our children safe. Thank you.
