We must equip our communities with tool to adapt to these new and challenging times | Opinion - Yahoo News

jaringankabar.blogspot.com

This is the third opinion piece that I have written in the last year and a half relating to covid-19, climate change, social unrest and challenges confronting our nation.

During this stressful period of time, there was a common feeling of relief, and even a sense of euphoric excitement a few months ago when the pandemic seemed to be waning.

Once we felt our anxiety was being reduced and there was a light at the end of the tunnel, a resurgence of covid-19 due to the Delta variant, once again put the country’s health concerns on high alert.

As a society, we cannot and should not ignore the reality of what feels like the new normal in the United States and throughout the world. It has been said, we are now mired in a reality that threatens not only our physical health but also the mental health of many of us.

With public schools having reopened this fall, even with debates about mask mandates making the news, it is my hope as things get better, as a society we will start to recognize our interdependence of each other and the fact we have the ability to face any threat, be it climate change or the impact of COVID-19, which has upended the entire world, leading to disruption, stress and challenges in our daily lives, but hopefully for only a limited time.

Because we are living through extraordinary times, we will have to develop and implement social programs that should be innovative, but also prove to be radical and in some cases, disruptive and difficult, as we all will have to make sacrifices for the common good.

Above all, it will be necessary if we want to maintain social cohesion, equity and solidarity in our society in the face of our many challenges.

Therefore, we must realize that we have the capacity to establish and push social, political and economic change that will be beneficial to us all. However, we will have to be bold and show our solidarity with a solidified understanding we are all in this together.

Remember, “Success and victory is not always final; failure and defeat is not always fatal.
