NFL Network snubbing Aaron Donald draws ire from unexpected places - Ramblin' Fan

Players, coaches, and administrative staff will be the first to tell you that the LA Rams are a very close NFL organization. The players, coaches, and even the front office staff not only cooperate, communicate, and collaborate at a level often unseen at other NFL organizations, but everyone genuinely likes and appreciates one another.

There is a reason why the LA Rams fanbase has adopted the term Ramily to describe themselves. Much like the team these fans support, it’s a bond that is greater than you might expect. And that bond surfaces when one of their own is snubbed or threatened.

Fans draw their example from the team, and the team is powered on this front by the coaching staff. The Rams coaching staff are not only some of the best in the NFL, but they are also some of the nicest and most approachable coaches as well. But when it comes to turning water into wine, you need to look no further than  LA Rams defensive run coordinator and defensive line coach Eric Henderson.

Each season, Coach Henny welcomes talented but raw NFL hopefuls and coaches them up into some of the most productive NFL players around. He is fiercely demanding of his players but in a tough love sort of way. He is also fiercely defensive of his group.

The latest example of that occured when the NFL Network released its NFL Top 100 list:

Almost shockingly, the list did not name Aaron Donald as the Top NFL player. Instead, it was the is-he-retired-or-isn’t-he quarterback from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady.  While I won’t argue that a player at Brady’s age starting as an NFL quarterback isn’t a venerable achievement, there is a far cry from a guy who is routinely facing overwhelming odds to get to the quarterback, and yet continues to do so.

Coach Henderson incensed reaction

That shocking decision led to this:

But Coach Henderson is not the only member of the LA Rams organization that noticed that glaring sleight. The LA Rams Twitter account also noticed, and was quick to comment as well:

The fact that Aaron Donald came in at second on any NFL list after the tremendous season he had just completed in 2021 is mind-blowing. But the fact that he comes in as a runner-up to a player who was not even certain about playing in 2022 is a bit more than surprising.

The LA Rams just renegotiated Aaron Donald’s contract to compensate him at the level at which he plays. The last time that happened, in 2018, he proceeded to put up arguably the best NFL season of his career. Now, he not only has a brand new contract that ensures his financial security to motivate him, but he has this latest ranking to give him a special motivation to play with a chip on his shoulder.

Look out NFL quarterbacks. Here comes LA Rams Aaron Donald, and I don’t think he’s in a very good mood.
