The Alabama Crimson Tide won the SEC regular-season championship and enters the SEC Tournament in Nashville this week as the top seed. Alabama also held the No. 1 spot in the national rankings for a portion of the 2022-23 season. So it stands to reason that the Crimson Tide would have the top honoree on the All-SEC Basketball Team, as chosen by the experts who cover the league for the USA TODAY Sports Network.
Freshman Brandon Miller was chosen Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Missouri's Dennis Gates was voted Coach of the Year and Florida forward Colin Castleton was picked Defensive Player of the Year.
Gates coached the Tigers to a 11-7 league record. Missouri is 23-8 heading into the postseason.
Miller leads the league in scoring at 19.6 points per game and is fifth in rebounding with 8 boards per game. He was the only unanimous first-team selection and was also unanimously selected Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
Castleton is second in the league with three blocks per game and also averages nearly one steal per game while hauling in 7.7 rebounds per contest.
Thirteen sports journalists who cover SEC basketball for the USA TODAY Sports Network participated in the voting.
