“Bern, baby, Bern!” on Yankees telecasts?
YES and Yankees legend Bernie Williams have had talks about Williams joining Yankees broadcasts this upcoming season, according to sources.
While the initial discussions just happened last week. Williams is someone the network will consider as it continues to add to its depth behind lead play-by-player Michael Kay and analysts David Cone, Paul O’Neill, John Flaherty, Jeff Nelson and Todd Frazier.
Williams could be a candidate to join lead pre-and-postgame host Bob Lorenz and top studio analyst Jack Curry on some nights.
If Williams were to come aboard, YES would likely first try him in studio before deciding to increase his workload.
YES declined comment.
In recent years, YES and the Yankees have hired new analysts with mixed results.
In 2022, Carlos Beltran and Cameron Maybin only lasted one season each before leaving.
Maybin and the Yankees broke up, while Beltran left for a job in the Mets’ front office.
YES had interest in Derek Jeter last year, but it never came to fruition. Jeter ended up signing as a Fox Sports MLB studio analyst.
Williams, 55, won four World Series with the Yankees and was a five-time All-Star in his 16 seasons.
