At dawn’s break, the airwaves on 880 AM stirred to life with the familiar crow of a rooster, followed by the resonant greeting, “Gooooooooooood morning,” from the morning show host, Clay Patton.
For nearly a decade now, Patton’s voice has been heard across the region, most recently on 15 radio stations as the market anchor for the Rural Radio Network. Patton begins his day as the KRVN AM morning show host, transitioning to the markets and making an appearance on NTV during the noon hour.
Before he signs off for the day, he delivers his final tag that listeners have grown accustomed to.
“I’m Clay Patton. Keep a straight row.”
After six years at the Nebraska Rural Radio Association Patton is stepping away from the microphone.
Patton says there have been numerous highlights in his broadcast career. From covering the 2019 Presidential visit to the American Farm Bureau Convention to traversing the landscapes of Kansas for the annual Hard Winter Wheat Quality tour, his reporting brought the pulse of these events to eager ears.
There were also notable natural disasters that Patton covered, helping to share information with listeners and to cover their stories following the events. A story he filled about an Ohio group delivering hay to Nebraska following the 2019 floods is in among his favorites.
“While it wasn’t the brightest of times, being able to tell the stories of people impacted by those natural disasters was one of the most important things I was able to do.”
Expressing gratitude to the Nebraska Rural Radio Association for the opportunities behind the microphone, Patton also extended heartfelt thanks to the listeners.
“I want to thank our listeners for their support as they tuned in from their tractor cabs, feed truck, kitchen table and everywhere in between.”
