VC for Three! Vince Carter to join YES Network broadcast team - Nets Daily

Jason Kidd used to say, privately of course, that Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter had a bit of a love-hate relationship. Sometimes, they loved each other, sometimes the competitive juices had them at odds.

Now, with Tuesday’s announcement that VC will be joining the Brooklyn Nets broadcast team, they’ll have to get along. The YES Network tweeted out the announcement...

Carter will join Jefferson and Sarah Kustok in the booth as an analyst. No word yet on how many games VC will call, but the New York Post reports the number will be “small.” The move comes as a surprise, but no doubt will be a popular one. No. 15 of course was one of the Nets greatest players in their 35 years in New Jersey.

Carter, traded to the Nets for what amounted to trinkets and baubles in 2004, played five seasons at the Meadowlands, averaging 23.6 points over 374 games on 45/37/81 shooting splits. Playing opposite Kidd in the Nets backcourt, Carter set franchise scoring records for the franchise, some of which still stand even after KD and Kyrie’s tenure.

Carter’s value to the Nets couldn’t just be counted in statistics, either. He arrived just months after Kenyon Martin had left, deflating the franchise faithful. In 57 games in 2004-05, he averaged 27.5 points a game — and adding a reported 5,000 season ticket holders that next summer. Not to mention the highlight reel of dunks and clutch 3-pointers.

There have been reports in recent years that the Nets would retire Carter’s No. 15, but it has yet to happen. Alan Williams was the last Nets player to wear No. 15, back in 2019.

Andrew Marchand of the Post reports that Carter “will analyze a small package of games this season,” with Jefferson and Kustok doing the “bulk of the analysis.”

Carter, who played 21 seasons in the NBA with eight teams, had been doing analysis for ESPN but like a number of on-air and off-air personalities did not have his contract renewed for this season. The YES gig will be good way to rejuvenate his broadcast career, Marchand wrote.

VC, of course, is the latest addition to the YES booth. The team announced earlier in the summer than Noah Eagle, Ian’s son, will call games for the Nets as well. Noah Eagle, 25, was nine years old when Carter played his last game for New Jersey.
